Artist Highlight | My Ocean by Bethany Lacktorin

After almost a year since posting on my blog, I wanted to share a beautiful performance art piece called My Ocean. I was introduced to this piece from an Off the Clock Rural Arts and Culture Workers group discussion.

I’ve been feeling a little lost lately, as it has been almost a year exactly since my Fulbright Fellowship was delayed and I still do not have an idea of when I’ll get to go to Norway. I can’t really put into words how and why this video struck me so deep in my core. I think it’s because this type of storytelling, the experience of the landscape with intentional sounds being shared with others, relaying stories and creating experiences that demonstrate family history, our relationship to the land, the stories of rural life…is something that I hope to share at the culmination of my Fulbright fellowship.

Seeing this and spending time watching this performance feels like food for my soul. I’m so happy that other rural artists and culture workers are doing this deeply important work and so I wish to share it with you. Enjoy.
